Responsive Website Design
2012-2018 My most recent designs are below.
I design and code custom responsive websites.
DANBoater.org
DAN Boater: A responsive website to introduce boaters to medical emergency offerings for their worldwide journeys. The main benefits are introduced and a set of authoritative medical articles and an online medical guidebook is provided. I was involved in concept, design, strategy, content development, coding html and CSS for the entire website. www.DANBOATER.ORG/trip.
Little Guys by Cindy Pacileo
Little Guys by Cindy Pacileo: This is a fully responsive website. This creative ceramic artist makes small unique handmade animal figurine sculptures. Each one has a unique personality. The subjects are fun, the animals delightful, so the website had to have some fun features. The site is not an ecommerce site because the primary clients are galleries across the country who order privately. However, there is an online order form available for individuals to use. This is a static xhtml website so that the loving wheelchair-bound husband of the artist can personally maintain and update all ordering and gallery information. Don't the animals delight your heart. I do provide all the product photography for the site and update it annually. Do you love elephants and frogs, and chimps and turtles and dragons? www.cindypacileo.com
Homecare Raleigh NC
Homecare Raleigh NC: This is a fully responsive website. This company provides hourly, long-term, and live-in care for the elderly and people returning from the hospital or with major long terms diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinsons, Canter and more. The site was redesigned to provide a welcoming homepage for the families of the elderly to select the type of help needed or view the blogs. There were substantial blogs for both elderly care and home care. A special feature is the colorful list of major diseases and other types of help people may serch by type of illness rather than just type of care. This site was recently taken over by its parent company and is no longer live online at this address.
Trip Insurance
Divers Alert Network Trip Insurance: website provides the opportunity for anyone to purchase travel insurance on desktop or on device. This completely responsive trip insurance application has been extremely successful for the company with over $200,000 in combined travel insurance sales in the first two weeks alone. This site was designed as part of my full time tenure at Diver's Alert Network and is owned by DAN, shown here with permission. My role was website strategy and design as well as html/css coding of the landing pages. This is similar to the work I do in my own business. The back end code and database for these sites from DAN is in a dot.net platform and was produced by the DAN IT department as a team. I was a member of that team. On this site I planned the strategy and designed and coded the responsive application and form, with the back end coding work and database produced by the DAN IT department. www.DAN.ORG/trip.

DAN.ORG/Health Online Diving Health Encyclopedia
Divers Alert Network Dive Health Encyclopedia: This encyclopedia was developed based on the search statistics confirming the extremely large volume of website visitors searching for information on certain major diving health topics. The plan was set in motion to serve the world diving community and then writing work was begun. The DAN doctors and research experts developed the content. The first sets of topics are now live on desktop and all devices. Work continues to extend the topics and connect them with all the valuable services handled by Divers Alert Network including videos, online seminars, safety courses, articles, diving tips and much more. I worked on initital concept development, SEO, Strategy, and plans for the series. They cover topics such as Decompression Sickness, Hazardous Marine Life, Basic First Aid for all adult and children. The courses were already developed and in print. My role was to design landing pages and course pages for the website. I also developed an eBook series for these course books, now produced in four languages: English, Spanish, French and Portuguese. Peppergraphics Website Designs
The designs below are conceived and developed by Peppergraphics. The first two are also produced by Divers Alert Network and are in current use there. All others are either Joomla Content Management Systems developed in full by Peppergraphics as unique custom templates for my clients, or original static page sites. All these preceed the "Responsive" web development era and were completed prior to 2012.
Divers Alert Network & Alert Diver Online
www.DAN.org, the Divers Alert Network website is the home to more than 250,000 scuba diver members from the US and Canada. This organization is known for Emergency Hotline support for scuba divers everywhere, dive safety research, incident management, incident prevention, and incident protection. The depths of the ocean are portrayed here to highlight the diver and the need for safety when alone with only a buddy in the deeps below. The issue with a very large website of this type is whether to present content by department, sharing the work of each department of the organization, or by the primary needs of its visitors for health issues assistance and dive accident insurance and emergency assistance. This organization hired me to work for them full-time on their web presence management and search presence shortly after the creation of this website. www.DAN.ORG.
Alert Diver Online
Alert Diver Online is the magazine of the Divers Alert Network. The print magazine is published four times a year, with its online version posted at the same time. When the recent redesign of the magazine was initiated a similar online magazine presence was desired. The subtle blue shadow imagery was chosen to feature the outstanding world class ocean photography on every page. www.alertdiver.com.
O'Mara Landscaping
O'Mara Landscaping features Landscape Design and the many views of the designs from this unique home page. The hover feature is used to allow the image and message at the top to change as you hover or mouse over each picture in the group below. Each page is embedded with a slide show of the properties the company has beautified. This is a Joomla Content Management System website which is updated by the client. www.omaralandscaping.com.
4 Paws Pet Sitting
The fun feature of this website was the creation of the photographic cat and dog banner. The site was a static page website because the owner was skilled with html coding and wished to update it that way. Embedded also are a couple of linked blogs. Another unique feature to ease the customer when searching for a sitter, each city page had the photos and bios of the pet sitters in that community. The city pages were linked by a visual map. Fun social character images were found for the bottom highlights. The tone of animal fun was the theme. The search engine needs at the time suggested we replace wording in her title and meta descriptions tags to better match the searches of her clients. This solution worked and she remained at home on the first page of most of her search goals. This is an older website and is not currently live in this form, but it is close to my heart because of the fun elements.
Alzheimers
Looking for a website update, the Alzheimer's NC Association came to me wanting to make their Joomla website more current. Adding a flavor of human warmth, showing real patients, the navigation was intended to be both playful and informative. The buttons are large type and clear to see and click for donations, support groups, workshops, and answers. The article navigation system is based on types of questions people ask. It is a multiple themed blog - actually ten topic related blogs connected together, built into the one Joomla system. Knowing that people come in many paths to search for this information, the site is designed to be entered from organic search on any article topic. With the large clear top navigation, it does not matter where the site is entered, the navigation is easy and natural. The search engine optimization is such that the articles by well-respected authors should easily come up on many online search topics. www.alznc.org
Judaic Art Kits
This website is a storefont for crafts products based on religious heritage. The contemporary five column design is built in a Joomla Content Management System. Each of four product category boxed identify the product lines. Several of the categories were dozens of unique craft designs pictured and ordered by number. Rather than build an ecommerce engine, the site required a unique tailoring of the orders so it had an initial emailed form entry totalled by the store manager for your school. Then payment was made by paypal button once the order was finalized. It was a simple system for a complex and creative business. The site is no longer online as the business has since been modified.
Environmental Solutions, Inc
This website replaced a significanly older website. The challenge here was to provide owners of large shipping, railways, and factories with a imple view of what products were available for ecological cleaning. The green panel contains a list of the industry categories which, on hover, change the photo and the product list for easily explaining what the company can do for each industry. Internally the articles and product lines are set up as multiple blogs in the center column. This is a Joomla Content Management System and is fully maintained by the client. An interesting note about keywords here: The original website featured the word "bioremedial" products. We found in our research that the more popular word was "bioremediation" and this was more frequently searched by a factor of 300 to 74,000. The revised website yieled a significant increase on visibility and presentation on organic search. The business has done very well with its greater web visibility.
Carolyn T. Dalby, CPA PC
Often people with a small professional business are not in need of a large website. They just want the equivalent of a "business-card-online" so peope can find them and know their hours. They prefer a budget site that is easy to maintain. With this site I started my online business cards services for people with this simpler need. The clean style fits the temperament of this lovely warm accountant, whose office is adorned with plants, and provides a sense of professionalism yet simplicity and approachability. This is a one page website, and the schedule at the bottom is edited with an online cms solution from "Page-Lime". It is inexpensive and easy to maintain, but provides a statement of elegance appropriate for this client. www.carolyntdalbycpapc.com
Diversity Associates, Inc.
The theme for this website was to portray the tone of the office for this counseling professional. Most of her work is online counseling and support services for people located around the world. Thus she provides a visual analogy to her ideal office so those speaking with her can imagine the zen-like tone and environment of their meeting spot. Rather than one area of specialty, this counselor provides guidance in many theme areas. Thus the website is set up with pages on each of these topics, which can be found separately on the search engine. All the pages are effectively homepages. This site is actually a static page site which is edited by the client completely inside an online CMS service called "Page-Lime" to provide design elegance but keep the costs approachable for a small business. Diversity Associates, Inc.
Max Pilates
This pilates instructor provides a zen-like environment to her practice and wanted that feeling for her website. The color desired was blue-to-grey. So, the background itself is the only image. This is a simple Joomla Content Management System website with a unique template crafted for simplicity. Can you feel her energy? The site is maintained completely by my client.
Shawstrings
A violin and a viola are the tools of her trade, and a flair for networking. With this, Virgina has built a collaborative network of musicians that delight weddings and other special business events throughout the Philadelphia area. This site features music selection samples and an easy-to-navigate complete selection of musical titles that can be set for a playlist. The most significant feature was the creation of the tone of the site, providing the setting of a small classical group playing in a romantic setting. I photographed the group for this montage. This is a static website, maintained by me for my client. www.shawstrings.com
Translations for One World
A one page site, capturing the spirit of this Spanish translator, provides information as you scroll down and a simple navigation that pops down to the matching topics. It is a simple structure for a small business yet dynamic and effective at low cost. This company has changed venues so this site is no longer on the web.
Women's Power Networking
When I found the "Women's Power Networking" organization locally, I was stunned by their website. It was completely invisible to Google for search. It was in an iframe and totally blocked. Knowing that the women wanted to be found in search as they were all building their businesses, I took this site on as a challenge and gave it as a gift. This is the only website I have given as a gift to a worthy organization. I simultaneously joined the organization and it assisted me with my business as well. I am still ticked by the success and the journey of this group of women, many of whom became my clients and still are both clients and friends. The first version of the website was a Joomla Content Management System which featured pages of photos and bio information on each of the chapters in the organization - their first online mentions in search. Subsequently the idea came to offer the group a networking site where they could feature their business ventures on their own pages and post articles and blog. The new site, pictured here in its initial form, with almost the same original design as the Joomla site, is a ning site. The flowery imagery is carried over into hovering buttons where the flowers grow as you mouse over them. This wonderful organization is spreading across the country, helping and educating women in business, and its website matches as it too grows and changes.
Webby Award Honoree 2006: Mona Foundation 2005-9
This website is a tale of love. I learned of this amazing organization and its dreams of supporting the efforts in every continent of the world to educate children with special emphasis on education women in technology. It won my heart. This website was my third website. The third one. I designed and coded it from scratch in xhtml and fully maintained it for several years as the oprganization grew and became very successful. They have sponsored more than 19 projects and currently support successful ongoing educational institutions across the world. I developed the strategy for the site as well as the design. I was supplied with fabulous photography of happy children from all locations. As I received reports I chronicled the efforts in each school and shared them on the website from 2005-2009. The organization's directors submitted this website for an award in 2006 and it was awarded a Webby Honoree for the Philanthropic Category.
The Webby is earned for many facets of the site: Content, Structure and Navigation, Visual Design, Functionality, Interactivity and Overall Experience. βThe Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. Established in 1996 during the Web's infancy, The Webbys is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences β a 1,000+ member judging body that includes Executive Members comprised of leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities, and Associate Members who are former Webby Award Winners and Nominees and other Internet professionals.β I am honored to have been awarded such an acclaim for my work. After almost forty years in the print design profession, and only two years of web design and coding, compunding my efforts in both media, this has paved the way for the past decade of my life and all of its success.
Speaking of success, this foundation has grown and become so successful, that in 2010 Microsoft Engineers took it on as a project and provided it a new website as a gift to the organization. This original design pictured here is no longer online.
